We are a private, non-for-profit
organization founded in December 2005 to serve the neighborhoods, which
collectively are bounded by Routes 157, 161, 15 and 26th Street in
Belleville, Illinois. This area is more commonly referred to as
the "West End." Initiated through the efforts of the
West
Belleville Promotional Committee, a division of the
Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce and the
City of
Belleville, WERC's mission is to serve as a catalyst for
home ownership, neighborhood stabilization and community
revitalization.
"Revitalizing the Future
of West Belleville."
The West End
is a community of
friendly
neighborhoods with beautiful homes, well-established schools and
churches, and easy access to the great city of St. Louis.
Some of our older properties have given way to years of neglect and/or
abandonment, and WERC sees an opportunity to restore these properties
while making way for revitalization.
Initial Efforts
are focused on purchasing deteriorating
properties in the West End. Properties owned by WERC will be
managed, improved and sold, or removed on a case-by-case basis.
With a eleven-member Board of Directors and a Finance Advisory
Committee in place, we are ready to go to "WERC."
The Future
for the West End is bright and the West
End Redevelopment Corporation is committed to revitalizing and
maintaining a healthy, diverse community with quality housing.
Get Involved
by making a donation to WERC
and/or volunteering your time. We are a community-based
organization, and you can help us build an even better West End.
(WERC is classified as a public charity and tax exempt under
Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue code. Contributions are
tax deductible.)

Mark Eckert,
Mayor of
Belleville, Illinois, discusses WERC
“Great things
are happening in West Belleville. A second new West Belleville
entry marker will soon be con-structed on Route 15 just east of
the Shrine to welcome residents and visitors to our community.
Also, a new Not-For-Profit organization, the West End
Redevelopment Corporation, has recently purchased several
properties which will be included in the plan to revitalize and
beautify the West End.
As Mayor, my
goal is to strengthen our neighbor-hoods and to create stability
and growth in our com-munity. When you have partnerships between
government, businesses, schools, community volunteer groups, and
organizations such as the West End Redevelopment Corporation,
things can happen!
I look forward
to working with the West End Redevelopment Corporation to
accomplish our goals and to build Belleville into an even
stronger Community of Character.”
