Public Relations Committee Goals and Activities

Issue – How can WERC make our organization more visible to the public?

1.  Goal:  Have in place a media strategy.
Strategy: PR Committee will develop a media  strategy to present to the Board for approval.
          Identify WERC spokespeople.
          Identify media outlets.
Strategy: Review environment to identify critical issues.
          Develop a mechanism to bring issues to  WERC’s attention (should be flexible).
          Seek input from WERC committees.

2.  Goal: Publicize in cooperation with other groups.
Strategy: Have a list of other appropriate groups
           PR Committee (and membership) to identify non-profit and educational groups.
           Investigate feasibility of commercial partnerships.
Strategy: Market WERC messages.
           Develop series of PSA’s to air.
           Investigate free or low-cost assistance for marketing.

Issue – How can WERC form effective coalitions with other organizations?

1.  Goal: WERC will explore closer relationships with West Belleville Promotional Committee, a division of the Greater Belleville Chamber of Commerce .
2.  Goal:  WERC will explore opportunities with the Junior Service Club of St. Clair County.
3.  Goal:  Identify potential community organizations for coalition partners.

Issue – How can WERC increase and sustain sponsorship and develop the next generation of leaders?

1.  Goal: Have a fair and attractive dues structure.
2.  Goal: Support an active and growing sponsorship.
Strategy: Sponsorship committee will develop a plan.
         Establish mentoring program.  
         Develop retention strategy.
         Explore internships on committees.
         Create volunteer opportunities (may include boxes on sponsorship form to indicate committee interest areas).
Strategy: Board evaluates Advisors and Friends Division.
